Sun Yat-sen University, also unofficially referred to as Zhongshan
University, is a prominent university located mainly in Guangzhou
. The University is named after Dr. Sun Yat-sen, founder of both the University and the Republic of China. Being one of the leading universities in the People’s Republic of China, Sun Yat-sen University is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary university, including the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, technical sciences, medical sciences, pharmacology, and management science.
In 2011, it had 36,000 students in 23 schools and colleges and offered graduate courses across 17 discipline, including schools in medicine, dentistry, law and business. In its 2011-12 rankings, Times Higher Education World University Rankings placed the university somewhere between the positions 276 and 300 worldwide.
Guangzhou South Campus
-The Guangzhou South Campus is located in Haizhu
District, Guangzhou, and covers a total area of 1.17 square kilometers. It mainly hosts disciplines in sciences and humanities.
Guangzhou North Campus
- The Guangzhou North Campus is located in Yuexiu
District, Guangzhou, and covers an area of 0.39 square kilometers. It is a campus mainly for disciplines in medical sciences.
Guangzhou East Campus
-The Guangzhou East Campus is located at the north end of the Guangzhou University
City in Xiaoguwei, Panyu
, and covers an area of 1.13 square kilometers. The Guangzhou University City is a major development made by the People’s Government of Guangdong
Province in an effort to implement the strategy of building Guangdong through science and education. The first batch of students started school there in September 2004.
- The Zhuhai Campus is located at Tang Jia Wan, Zhuhai City, and covers an area of 3.48 square kilometers. Freshmen and sophomores of some disciplines in liberal arts, natural sciences, and medical sciences are currently living and studying on campus with students from the School of Network Education and Continuing Education.
In the graduate study programmes there are 17 disciplines leading to Doctorate and/or Master degrees, of which 146 specialties lead to a Doctorate degree and 205 specialties lead to a Master degree. In addition, there are 12 branches of studies leading to professional degrees, which are: Doctor of Medicine, Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Judicial Studies (LL.M.).
