The beautiful Chateau de Versailles is a great example of the magnificence of the kings and queens of Europe. Step back in time and imagine what it was like living in the palace of Louis XIV while you listen to expert commentary about its history.
The royal court moved to Versailles in 1661. During the reign of Louis XIV the Chateau underwent major renovations and expansions.
During this tour you will see all the main features of the palace, including the impressive Grands Appartements—the private rooms of the king.
They were designed as a series of seven rooms, each named after the seven planets of the solar system known at the time. The center room, Salon de Apollo, served as the throne room and contained a solid silver throne.
The spectacular Hall of Mirrors is fitted with 17 arches which are covered by mirrors. Louis XIV passed by this room everyday while walking from his private apartments to the chapel. Here the members of the court would assemble to see the king and request an invitation to one of the royal parties.
The history and beauty of this remarkable chateau will appeal to your imagination and be one of the highlights of your visit to Paris.
After about an hour awe-inspiring sights you will be taken into the gardens, which have hosted some of the world's most prestigious people in their lifetime. You will have the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the estate and the uniqueness of Versailles before having a time for lunch in the Park (lunch not included).
In the afternoon your guide will then take you to the «Grand Trianon», a marble palace listed as UNESCO World Heritage since 1979. You will then discover the «Queen's Hamlet», a Norman-style thatched cottage build for Maire Antoinette.
