Sirata-Monteom is a seaside resort seasonal local interest,located in the central-western county of Buzau , Muntenia , Romania , about 14 km away from the town of Buzau . The city belongs to the administrative village Apples and was first known among locals for healing waters of salt springs.
In the late nineteenth century , the town and surrounding lands were purchased by Greek Monteoru Gregory , who then took the name of the village as a surname; he successfully exploited deposits of oil , then used the profits to finance investment in a resort. In the interwar period , the Monteoru was put into an oil mine unique in Europe at that time. The resort was the heyday until World War II , was destroyed after the establishment of the communist regime and confiscation of property. During 1970 , the communist state invested in the resort as two hotels and a treatment facilities, completed after the fall of the regime and the return to a market economy, the other private initiatives in tourism.
The city is also known for Monteoru culture , a culture that includes archaeological sites dating from the Bronze Age , and whose eponymous settlement lies near the eastern edge of the village today, Citadel Hill.
The city has the status of resort of local interest, operating here annually in May-August and a tourist information center.In Buzau County, which recorded in 2012 3097 beds and 57,000 arrivals with 166,700 overnight stays, village Apples (which Sarata Monteoru is almost all tourist activity) had 889 places where there were 11,997 arrivals with 76,070 overnight stays, which shows that there are 28% of the accommodation capacity the County which runs up to 45% of the tourist activity.
In the tourist reception structures were in 2011: 2-star, 3-star hostel accommodation for 4, 3, 2 stars, rural guesthouses 4, 3, 2 flowers, 3-star villa, campsite 2 stars rooms for rent 2-star bungalow on a star. The main units of Ceres hotel tourism are administered by the Ministry of Labour and accommodation used for treatment tickets pensioners and Monteoru and Montana hotels, hostels and camp school children Vila Monteoru.The network agritourism is represented here by the largest number of guesthouses in the county.
Chloro-sodium water swimming pool fed by local springs is the main tourist attraction of the area. Weekend tourism is the main type of tourism practiced, many tourists coming from Buzău to use only open-air pools without the need for accommodation. Distance 15 km from the main urban center, Buzau, make Sarata Monteoru starting a cycling destination in the city.
Buzau County Council stands in its development strategy for 2010-2015, poor promotion of the resort, identifying sources of Monteoru health tourism as tourism development opportunities in the county.
